This weekend, I gave myself permission to pause. I booked a session at Goldcat Hammam & Spa here in Abuja_ part curiosity, part self-preservation. I’ve heard people speak highly of the Hammam experience, so I went in with an open mind and a tired body.
This Spa is located on the 6th floor of Johnwood Hotel_ conveniently right next to my office, which made it an easy choice. This was actually my first time inside the hotel, and I was pleasantly surprised. Everything felt thoughtfully put together and it gave just enough elegance without being loud about it. The staff were kind and welcoming_ from the moment I mentioned I was heading to the 6th floor, someone immediately offered to escort me there. It was a small gesture, but it set the tone for the calm I was hoping to experience.
Soon as I got to the 6th floor, I was impressed by the ambiance. Warm yellow lighting, plush loungers, fragrant oils, and staff who understood silence is sometimes the best service. Let me show you some pictures that I took.

I was soon introduced to my therapist, who led me to the lounge area where I waited for a few minutes. The space itself was incredibly calming—quiet, softly lit, and inviting. Let me show you.

My therapist called me into the Hammam room and handed me disposable underwear to change into—pink, of all colors. How did she know I liked pink? I had to laugh.

I have to mention how beautiful the Hammam room was. There’s a cozy lounge area where you can sit and change before stepping into the main Hammam space. Let me show you a picture.

We started with the Royal Hammam: a mix of steam bath and full-body exfoliation. My therapist didn’t rush the session—she sent me into the steam four times. Truthfully, it felt a little overhyped. Nothing magical—just steam, scrub, and rinse. Still, there’s something sacred about being cared for without needing to speak.

The real highlight for me was the massage. The treatment room was one of the most beautiful I’ve seen_ warm lighting, soft textures, and an atmosphere that immediately told my body to relax. Let me share a few pictures with you.

My therapist had gifted hands_ firm enough to release the tension I didn’t even know I was carrying, gentle enough to quiet my thoughts. Was it worth it? Absolutely_ for the massage, for the moment of calm, and for me. Not every experience has to be revolutionary. Sometimes, it’s enough that it simply happened.
I walked out feeling soft, still, and a little more held by life.

Overall, the experience was lovely. The massage alone was worth every second, and despite my mixed feelings about the hammam, I left feeling lighter, softer, and well taken care of. I’ll definitely be going back—and maybe next time, I’ll just skip straight to the massage table.
Thanks for reading. Until next time, take care of yourself—you deserve it.
This place is so pretty and looks so calming. Do you have their price list?
I have always thought Hamman was more than just a body scrub. Did dirt fall off your skin as we see in videos?
